How long would I new 17 inch macbook pro last?

I've decided that with the new i7 processors and improved graphics processors I'm going to make the leap to a new uni-body 17 inch macbook pro. Obviously this is a big investment for me so what I want to know is: roughly how long will before this laptop becomes completely obsolete/ unusable?
